Stress can drag you down. By using the following tools, you will start to reduce your stress - and start living a healthier and happier life.
Stress is something we all face. It can come in many forms throughout our daily lives. Luckily, we all have the tools within ourselves to cope with stress. The following are some great ideas to get you started on a stress-free life. Recognize Good Stress Versus Bad StressGood stress gives you an optimal amount of arousal to give you the motivation and focus to achieve a task (like taking a test, getting to work on time, or running a race). A healthy amount of stress is good for us. Bad stress, when out of control, prevents us from feeling content and being successful in our daily lives. It releases nasty hormones into our body and has a negative effect on our health. Lose Yourself in a HobbyDo you have a favorite hobby? If not, challenge yourself to find one this week. We live in a society that demands high productivity and responsibility. Give yourself a break from it all by relaxing and rejuvenating through a fun hobby. This will give you the energy and focus you need at work or home. Give yourself at least two hours a week for your hobby and take note to how de-stressed you feel. Decrease Your Body TensionAre you tense? You probably are or you wouldn’t be reading this article. At least once per day scan your body for tension, and identify the areas in your body that feel tense. When you notice a tense spot (shoulders, neck, head) flex that muscle or area for a count of six, then release. This will immediately increase the relaxation in that area. Face Your Anxiety SituationsInstead of avoiding that situation that causes you anxiety, face it and move on. Whether it’s a doctor or dentist appointment, talking to your boss, doing your taxes, writing your will, confronting someone about something unpleasant, finishing assignments, or something you don’t want to do – if you put it off for too long, it will make you sick with stress. So what’s the solution? At the beginning of each week, pick one unpleasant thing you’ve been avoiding. Create and execute a plan to face your anxiety situation. It may be unpleasant, but you will feel a lot better after it’s over with. Be TruthfulLie detector tests monitor stress from telling a lie. Whether you are telling small, medium, or extra-large lies – to relieve stress, you need to start being more truthful. It may be as simple as answering “pretty stressed out” when someone asks you how you’re doing. We sometimes lie out of fear that we will disappoint or anger people, but it’s time to start facing the truths in your life so you can honestly face them. Being truthful may seem obvious or scary, but it’s one great way to cope with stress. Don't Give UpStop avoiding the stress in your life. It's there. You can learn great ways to de-stress your life and cheer yourself up. No matter what you do, don't give up!
