Finding inspiration to put creativity back into your life that will ultimately lead to stress reduction.

Stress inhibits creativity. When creativity is suppressed people become uninspired and lack enthusiasm to be original. Life simply becomes boring. People simply do not have the time to practice a hobby or do something creative for themselves anymore. The general conception these days is; if it does not make money, it is not worth the time.

By developing the right side of the brain that governs creativity, all areas that are governed by the left side can benefit as well. Thinking in a more creatively influenced manner can lead to original ideas. Original ideas in the work place can lead to a good salary or even a promotion.

A stressful life can lead to the suppression of the natural instinct to create. Human beings are born with the need to create things – things for practical use or useless aesthetic objects that provide pleasure for the senses only. When this natural instinct is suppressed, we become unhappy and depressed.

Step 1: Relax

The first step would be to start relaxing. Make time to do things that will inspire you to start thinking creatively again and perhaps start creating things:

  • Visit the local library. Focus on finding books that are aesthetically pleasing to you with colourful pictures, like books on art history, exotic destinations or animals.
  • Visit a park in your lunch break. Take off your shoes and concentrate on hearing the sounds of nature, like the chirping of birds or the buzzing of bugs.
  • Have a chick flick evening with a couple of friends. Make it a sinful one filled with chocolate, cake and champagne.
  • Take your partner to the beach or a park with a view to watch the sunset. Bring a pizza and a blanket.
  • Go to a gallery or an art museum. Buy a piece of art, however small and take it home with you.
  • A candlelit bubble bath is a classic and fail proof way to unwind.

Step 2: Start Creating

Once you feel relaxed, you can start being a little more proactive.

  • Take on the mission of making your garden the most colourful and sweet scented flower haven on the block.
  • Attend a drawing or painting workshop to furnish you with some self-confidence to start creating a work of art.
  • Take a walk in the woods or on the beach and collect pebbles, shells or pieces of wood and colourful leaves. Use them to decorate a photo frame or jewellery box.
  • Buy some new beads to spruce up an old necklace.
  • Make cup cakes and decorate them with sugar art.

Step 3: Dedication and Diversity

Make time for yourself – you deserve it. The people that love you also deserve a happier and more relaxed you. Try out new things and take on different challenges like pewter work or beading. Your personal and professional life will benefit greatly form it.

The Bottom Line

A stressful lifestyle can limit creative ability, which enhances our lives. In order to become creative we must teach ourselves to relax. It's well worth the effort.
